South Moor Golf Club
Welcome to South Moor Golf Club, something a little different
Founded in 1923, South Moor was designed by the World famous golf course architect Dr Alister MacKenzie. Whilst not a prolific designer MacKenzie is famed for Augusta National (home of the Masters), Cypress Point, Royal Melbourne and many other championship courses throughout the world.
South Moor is indeed a rare breed. It is one of only two MacKenzie designed courses in the region and Durham’s only true heathland course. Yet even on a national level South Moor stands out as there are fewer than 100 heathland courses in the UK, only four of which are MacKenzie designed.
Over the years South Moor has developed a reputation as a golf course that provides a tough but fair examination of every part of the game. The course winds between gorse, heather and bracken in a superb moorland layout, its large, slopey greens, a typical MacKenzie trait, guarantee that even when hit in regulation it will be tough to match par.
Today South Moor prides itself on the warm welcome afforded to local, national and international Visitors alike. The Club provides a range of modern facilities including excellent warm-up facilities which visiting golfers can enjoy prior to their round and first class catering.
Whatever the reason for your visit Pay & Play, Open Competitions, Society Days or Corporate Days we are sure it will live long in the memory.
