Daniel and Joseph Forrest have been budding artists since early childhood. Instead of the usual football or sports, Dan and Joe would be found making dens, covering entire rooms with worlds made of Lego or sketching and scribbling anywhere they could (including newly wallpapered walls to their parents annoyance). This fondness for imagery and imagination persisted throughout their young lives affirming an unavoidable vocational trajectory towards the arts.
They began their professional careers in 2004 when The Merseyside Forum recognised their talents and recruited them as apprentices. The Forum's studio was steeped in artistic history having once been the headquarters of Herbert Tyson Smith, a famous sculptor responsible for countless pieces of architectural embellishment around Liverpool and Southport. This setting gave Dan and Joe a firm grounding in traditional art that would greatly influence their future work. The unconventional, hands-on training they received under the guidance of local artist Terry McGunigle gave them experience and knowledge in a wide variety of both modern day and traditional techniques rarely taught, including: Fresco painting, stone carving, clay modelling and Gold leaf and gilding.
In 2007 they parted from The Forum and were soon approached by Vodka Revolution to produce some original pieces for new bars in London and Cardiff. These were to be still life paintings specific for each bar resembling a 17th Century Dutch style, dark and atmospheric. The only catch is they would be nearly 2.5 meters tall! Rising to the challenge Dan and Joe entered unknown territory, not only to tackle their first solo commission on a scale they'd never previously attempted, but to then start up their own business and try to make a living from what they loved doing.
Forrest Fine Arts was established in 2008 and they have since produced pieces for a number of bars, schools, businesses and private clients whilst also exhibiting original works in galleries around Liverpool and the Wirral.
