Austrian Alpine Club (UK)
The Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) is a large and long established mountain club, with much more to offer than most people realise when they contact the office. The club as a whole has a long history, with the OeAV founded in Vienna in 1862 it has developed into a important organisation, with approx 380,000 members in total across the 200 sections. The Austrian Alpine Club UK is a section of the Oesterreichischer Alpenverein which is based in Innsbruck, Sektion Britannia was formed in 1948 and is one of the largest mountaineering clubs in the UK with over 6,000 UK overseas members.
As an alpine club the aim is to encourage the growth of mountaineering and to support the life and culture of mountain people. It promotes and facilitates mountain activities..these range from mountain climbing, ski-touring, klettersteig, mountain walking and many sports in which training is provided. The club provides a wealth of information and access to training programmes, guides, produce merchandise of maps and books and run mountain huts maintaining the footpath and mountains routes.
