We will be going Wallacea Region of Indonesia for a two-week research trip. The island in the Wallacea Region we will be heading to is called Buton, near Sulawesi. In Sulawesi there are many species of animals, which are endemic to the island and the Wallacea region. One of the reasons this region is selected as part of Operation Wallacea is because of the little research and biological studies conducted there and so there are untold opportunities to discover new species! Also the reefs located around the Island form part of the Coral Triangle! This trip offers us a great opportunity as it consists of field work, practical work and lectures. During the first week we will be in the Jungle and the second week is Marine based! During both we will be looking at the biodiversity and ecology of the reefs and forests in Sulawesi. As well as the extremely important conservation and biodiversity research we will be doing, we will also get a chance to experience other cultures and what life is like in Indonesia, which will help us to educate people on the need to conserve.
