Anstruther Fish Bar

42-44 Shore St, Anstruther ,
Anstruther Fish Bar is our family business alongside our small fish processing company - Argofish, St Monans (Est 1980). Generations of our family have been fishermen from this area since the 1700s so we like to think we know a thing or two about fish! We are completely committed to sustainable fish and seafood, and source everything locally wherever possible. By personally purchasing our fish directly from the boats, we can guarantee only the freshest, prime quality haddock goes in to your fish supper. We work hard to maintain our award-winning standards and are proud of our EatScotland Silver Awards, the prestigious UK FISH & CHIP SHOP OF THE YEAR Award and many others. Visit Anstruther and the East Neuk of Fife and discover many unique shops and attractions – a perfect day out.

Waid Academy

Waid Academy

The Waid Academy is a public secondary school in Anstruther, Fife. The school's catchment area extends to Lundin Links, Lower Largo and Upper Largo but accepts pupils from towns such as Leven, Kennoway and Markinch.HistoryLieutenant Andrew Waid , an Anstruther man, left his money for the founding of Waid’s Orphan Naval Academy for the sons of poor mariners and fishermen. For a variety of reasons it was not possible for his wishes to be carried out in the years following his death, and for much of the 19th century his will was ignored and the value of his estate accumulated. At last in 1884, Commissioners appointed under the Educational Endowments Act of 1882, proposed a scheme for his money to be used for the creation of a secondary school to serve the East Neuk of Fife. On 6 September 1886, The Waid Academy opened for the first time. It was the first school in Scotland to be created under the 1882 Act and its constitution became a model for other schools which were created or changed as a result of the Act.The Waid Academy received a coat of arms in 1959 which was approved by the Lord Lyon King of Arms. It was designed by Stewart Lees, teacher of art at the school from 1953 to 1960. The design and motto are based on the carving in stone above the school’s main entrance. The coat of arms shows a ship passing between towers or pier heads. The logo is underscribed by the Latin phrase “Multi Pertransibunt Et Augebitur Scientia” - many will pass through and knowledge will be increased.
Anstruther Golf Club

Anstruther Golf Club

Shore Road, Anstruther ,
Anstruther Golf Club was founded in 1890 and has seen many changes over the years. The initial layout comprised 7 holes with trenches through the middle of the course and poles scattered over the greens to stop gliders landing during the war. In more peaceful times the course was extended to an excellent 9 holes which is kept in superb condition throughout the year. The course is located 9 miles south of St Andrews and stretches along the shoreline between Anstruther and Pittenweem. The spectacular views over Anstruther Harbour and out to the Isle of May, Bass rock and south west to Edinburgh are a constant distraction. Golfers should beware of Anstruther Golf Club’s version of Amen corner which comprises a series of 3 challenging par 3’s starting with The Rockies (5th) voted the toughest par 3 in the UK!
