Although the process had already been evolving for nearly 20 years the history is that Country Markets starts with the opening of the W.I. produce Market in Lewes Sussex in Dec 1919, (later being W.I. Baldock Town FC

Baldock Town FC

The North Herts Arena, Baldock ,
The previous Baldock Town FC's most successful period was a two-year spell in the Southern League Premier Division between 1995 and 1997. They also reached the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup on two occasions losing to Halesowen Town and Enfield respectively. Their last ever game was the final of the Herts Senior Challenge Cup, which they won, against Ware. Baldock's main claim-to-fame was that it was the club Kevin Phillips joined after being released from his YTS contract at Southampton. Phillips, who was born in nearby Hitchin, was converted from a right back to a striker, and enjoyed great success in front of goal before being sold to Watford for £10,000. He has since gone on to win 8 caps for England, and was the Premier League's top scorer for the 1999-2000 season. Other notable former players include former Norwich City striker Zema Abbey and former Spurs player Garry Brooke, who won the FA Cup in 1981 and 1982. Since reforming the Club won the Herts Senior County League Division One title at the first attempt in 2008 and have since finished in the top four of each of their previous seasons in the Premier Division. The "new" Club's best run to date in the FA Vase was a 1st Round Proper exit to Holyport of the Combined Counties League in the 2010/11 season. Town had beaten the higher-ranked Milton United and Basildon United in previous rounds. The 1st Team is currently managed by Scott Grant who played for the "old" club before its demise in 2001.
