Or how about the freshest, most flavoursome joint for your Sunday lunch? Come and find it, plus much much more at the Bridport Country Market every Saturday morning at the WI Hall, North Street between 09:00 and 12:00. We sell cakes, savouries, preserves of many flavours, organic meat, veg, eggs, plants and crafts all homemade by our co-operative of producers who all live within a maximum of fifteen miles from the market, so we are especially local to you, making our food miles very low. Our plants will thrive in your garden as they are right for the soil conditions of your area. Our vegetables are picked and packed either the day before or in some cases on the morning of the market. Our cakes and savouries are all baked fresh for the market just the way you remember your gran making them! We can also produce tailor made products just for you. A special cake, for a birthday or anniversary or an old favourite in preserves, we can adjust a recipe to your requirements, so if there is an ingredient you don’t like or your body can not tolerate, then we can produce something just for you. None of our cooked items contain any preservatives or colourings and as they are freshly made can be frozen. We can also produce a hamper with a selection of our produce chosen by you, for that someone extra special. Just come and talk to any one of our helpful and approachable producers directly at the market. What about becoming a producer? Do you have a bit of spare time in the evenings, or during the day, and a passion for producing something homemade? It can be as much or as little as you like. All it takes is five pence to sign up and become a member. Come and talk to us! There are currently twelve country markets in Dorset, but we also belong to a nationwide group which has around 400 markets in England, Wales and the Channel Islands. We are a co-operative social enterprise registered with the Industrial Provident Society. All our cooks hold a current food hygiene certificate level two, which is regularly updated, we have enviromental health and trading standards home authorities who keep us informed of various policies relating to best practice and legal responsibilities. Bridport Community Orchard

Bridport Community Orchard

Behind St Mary's Church, South Street, Bridport ,
The Community Orchard was established in 2008 on just under one acre of land, located in the heart of the town of Bridport, off South Street and behind St Mary's Churchyard. It grew out of two community initiatives, one in Bridport, to save a field from development and the other, a year-long project of The Symondsbury Apple Project, which was designed to raise awareness of Dorset’s rich orchard heritage. The field, once priory land, links South Street to the River Brit. In 2006, it was designated as a green space for community use. The new project created an orchard of apple trees, a ‘cordon hedge’ of heritage varieties, a wall of espalier pears and plums and a small plot of mother trees of local provenance to provide grafting wood for the future. A link to the list of tree varieties in the orchard can be found on our Orchard page. Fourteen allotment plots (including a Community Allotment with a thriving Gardening Club), sitting areas, an outdoor classroom, wildlife areas and a pond all contribute to making the orchard a truly valuable and sustainable community space. Everyone is welcome to use and enjoy it. BCOG's guiding principles are to manage the entire area as a model of "Sustainable Community", maximising the benefits for people and wildlife. It is operated on organic principles, with the aim of reducing, re-using and recycling whenever possible. Working Days to care for the orchard are held monthly, usually on the second Sunday of the month. All skills and general help much appreciated.
Bridport Pantomime Players

Bridport Pantomime Players

We are a local, self-funded Pantomime Group who have been established since 1965 and we gave our first performance in January 1966. Our founder, Bernard Gale, had previously been putting on pantomimes with children taking the roles but decided to form an adult group for the main roles and have the children dancing. Our first pantomime, Dick Whittington, took place on stage in St. Mary's Church House. A larger venue was soon needed and in 1968 Red Riding Hood was performed at the Palace Cinema. In 1999 the Palace was found to have various structural problems and closed. We spent several years performing at Bernard Gales own dancing school premises, The Lyric, before returning to the Palace when it re-opened and where we have remained since 2007. Anybody can join the Bridport Pantomime Players. All you have to do is contact us. Maybe you see yourself on stage as a Fairy, Villain or Dame. Or perhaps you enjoy singing and dancing as part of a group, or you may have a flair for costume making, make-up, prop making, scenery painting, or even hospitality on performance nights. Either way we welcome you and your talents.
