Conserving Local Communities Heritage
The CLOCH project is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund as part of the 'Skills for the Future' programme. CLOCH is a partnership project, lead by Glamorgan Archives, bringing together libraries, archives and museums across South Wales to offer 16 work-based traineeships over three years. The traineeships are available to local unemployed young men - providing an opportunity to gain skills and experience in a sector where they are under-represented.
Each cohort of trainees will start with a three month induction at Glamorgan Archives (the first cohort of trainees started in January 2012), followed by a range of placements in partner libraries, archives or museums. Throughout the year, the trainees will be working towards the Level 2 Certificate in Libraries, Archives and Information Services (via Coleg Llandrillo Cymru).
The trainees will be focusing on four core skills:
- digitisation
- community engagment
- research and local history
- conservation and collections management
