History: Started life in 1841 as the Chesterfield and Brampton Mechanics' Institute, and went through various incarnations, including the merger in 1984 of Chesterfield Art College and Chesterfield College of Technology, before becoming Chesterfield College. Chesterfield College is based at three sites across the north of Derbyshire. The Infirmary Road site is located close to the centre of Chesterfield, Tapton House is a mile further out of town on Brimington Road, and the Clowne campus is 10 miles from Infirmary Road, close to the centre of Clowne village. Chesterfield College achieved third place amongst the 20 Further Education Colleges in the East Midlands region according to the latest tables published by the Department for Children, Schools and Families. About Chesterfield Chesterfield is Derbyshire's second town, and ideally situated for use as a centre for visiting the magnificent countryside of the Peak District and the nearby wonderful historic houses of Chatsworth, Haddon and Hardwick - and convenient for visiting Bolsover Castle, and the romantic ruins of both Sutton Scarsdale Hall and Wingfield Manor.
