History: Started life in 1841 as the Chesterfield and Brampton Mechanics' Institute, and went through various incarnations, including the merger in 1984 of Chesterfield Art College and Chesterfield College of Technology, before becoming Chesterfield College.
Chesterfield College is based at three sites across the north of Derbyshire. The Infirmary Road site is located close to the centre of Chesterfield, Tapton House is a mile further out of town on Brimington Road, and the Clowne campus is 10 miles from Infirmary Road, close to the centre of Clowne village. The College caters for a wide range of learners, providing foundation courses, A Levels, vocational and professional qualifications, diplomas and degrees , in subjects that include construction, fitness and wellbeing, science and humanities, business, engineering, art and design, hospitality and catering, uniformed public services, information technology, child care, hair and beauty, amongst others.
Chesterfield College achieved third place amongst the 20 Further Education Colleges in the East Midlands region according to the latest tables published by the Department for Children, Schools and Families.
The College has been awarded the full Training Quality Standard (TQS) and is now recognised as one of the best UK organisations in the country to deliver employer training and development solutions. College is a highly regarded centre for work-based learning, offering training in partnership with 150 local companies and 1,000 learners, who the College delivers training and education to in the work place through Train to Gain and Apprenticeships.
With over 700 courses to choose from, some 8,000 students study at Chesterfield College, 4,700 of which are full-time, another 500 are studying for higher education courses, and over 2,500 adult and other part-time learners.
About Chesterfield
Chesterfield is Derbyshire's second town, and ideally situated for use as a centre for visiting the magnificent countryside of the Peak District and the nearby wonderful historic houses of Chatsworth, Haddon and Hardwick - and convenient for visiting Bolsover Castle, and the romantic ruins of both Sutton Scarsdale Hall and Wingfield Manor.
The town is crowned by the Crooked Spire of St. Mary & All Saints parish church, the town's most famous landmark which has dominated the surrounding landscape for over six hundred years - and which now presides over a modernised and award-winning town centre.
Railway pioneer George Stephenson brought the Midland Railway to Chesterfield and left his mark upon the town. The Stephenson Memorial Hall on the corner of Stephenson's Place was erected in his memory.
Chesterfield is an excellent centre for shopping as well as for recreation and leisure activities; the town has everything, from multi-plex cinemas to a ten-pin bowling alley, first-class international restaurants with almost every national cuisine available, and some of the best hotels in the County.

Good. Chesterfield railway station is right next door, and the college is 12 miles south of the regional hub of Sheffield. The college also operates an extensive free bus service to all full time students, which covers much of the surrounding area.
