Bank Holiday Monday, 27th May will see 3,500 golfing fans descend upon Dukes Meadows in Chiswick for the ultimate family day out. The golfing super-stars will battle it out in the new version of the game to win £250,000 for charities of their choice.
Each of the Pros will be helped to victory by celebrity team mates, with the line up including former British Tennis No.1 Tim Henman and football hero Jamie Redknapp. Popular UK TV presenter Vernon Kay will play host at the event.
THE RULES
Zone Golf is a colourful, Par 3 game, with a twist, which is set to revolutionise golf and be the sport’s version of 20/20 cricket. The game is played over 9 holes, which through its fast-paced strategic nature, offers an extremely exciting alternative to ‘normal’ golf. Each Par 3 green is divided into three coloured “zones†with a hole and flag in each zone (green-easy, amber-medium, red-hard). Each player/team must nominate a zone on the tee and subsequently hit that zone to acquire the relevant points (green-3, amber-6 and red-9). Additional points are available for Bogey-1, Par-2, Birdie-3, Eagle-4 (Hole in One). Spectator and player excitement is rocketed by the introduction of a “do or die†situation on every tee.
The player/team with the most points after nine holes wins.
There are three Zone Golf formats that can be played:
“POINTSPLAYâ€
“BATTLEâ€
“TEAM BATTLEâ€
When playing “POINTSPLAY†each player simply adds their accumulative points total from zones hit with additional points gained from bogeys, pars, birdies and eagles (Hole in Ones). This game can be played over 9,18,27 or 36 holes. (9 Par 3 holes constitute one round of Zone Golf). Over any of these hole durations, the player with the highest points total wins. Any tied scores at conclusion of play are decided by a sudden death playoff.
When playing “BATTLE†two individuals go head to head. If an individual is trailing by an insurmountable points deficit on the 9th tee, the match can still be won by choosing to activate the “steal†rule. This rule states that if the trailing individual makes a hole in one in the red zone they “steal†the match. This can only be countered if the leading player matches this feat. In the case of a match being tied the winner will be decided by a sudden death playoff.
When playing “TEAM BATTLEâ€, which is a fourball game, teams of two go head to head. Both team members must play to the same nominated zone, adding their individual scores together creating the team score. If a team is trailing by an insurmountable points deficit on the 9th tee, the match can still be won by choosing to activate the “team steal†rule. This rules states that if either, one player makes a hole in one in the red zone, or both players hit the nominated red zone and make birdie two’s they “team steal†the match. This can only be countered if the leading team match either of these feats. In all cases a 9th hole, red zone hole in one takes precedence. In the case of a match being tied the winning team will be decided by a sudden death playoff.
The “TEAM BATTLE†format will be used for The Zone Golf Charity Shoot Out. This eliminates any potential anti-climatic situation as the “TEAM STEAL†rule guarantees a £100,000 shot on the final hole.
