Dartmouth Academy

Dartmouth Academy

Dartmouth Academy, Milton Lane, Dartmouth ,
Dartmouth Academy is an education centre that we hope will become central to the community and the first choice for learners and parents alike. Open since September 2010, it is one of a small number of schools nationally which offers education for learners of all ages. These academies are the fastest improving schools in England and some of the highest performing, and we know that Dartmouth Academy will continue this trend and exceed expectations. The academy offers an outstanding standard of teaching to learners aged 3-18. With a radical curriculum, a personalised approach to learning through distinct stages of teaching and a positive ethos that promotes excellence and achievement, the academy adheres to three clear values - to care, to inspire and to excel. Above all, we care deeply about the young people at our school and it is our primary goal to find the best ways to support them to succeed at the highest level. As a local academy, we strive to develop genuine partnerships with our learners, the parents/carers and the community as a whole. Dartmouth Museum

Dartmouth Museum

6 Duke Street, Dartmouth ,
Dartmouth Museum is a small, fascinating and interesting museum housed in an atmospheric old merchant's house, built in approximately 1640. The Museum houses an extensive collection of artefacts, models, paintings and photographs which can help you explore and develop your interests, whether they be in maritime history, the social and economic history of the town of Dartmouth, or the physical changes to the town over the past centuries. From the moment you walk through the door you will be transported into the past life of this wonderful town, and begin to understand more about the strong link between the people of the town and the sea. It's a great day out for a wet day or a dry one Note our winter hours (November to end March) 12:00-1500 each day Car parking in Dartmouth is scarce in Summer. Plan to spend two hours in the museum, and use the Park and Ride car park for the most relaxed visit to Dartmouth as a whole.

Dartmouth Community Bookshop

Dartmouth Community Bookshop

12 Higher Street, Dartmouth ,
Dartmouth Community Bookshop is a community cooperative, set up specially to sell new books to local people and visitors to Dartmouth. We believe that many people want to browse and buy books in a bookshop and we want our shop to become a focus for booklovers in the area and to help promote reading and literacy in all age groups. We are a not-for-profit enterprise based at 12 Higher Street, Dartmouth, opposite the Cherub. We set up to replace the Harbour Bookshop, selling new books and keeping alive the connection with Christopher Robin. After lots of hard work by many people, and a generous loan, we opened the shop on December 5. We have a good selection of childrens’ and adult books and can take orders. New stock is coming in all the time. Andrea Saunders from the Harbour Bookshop is our professional, paid manager and chooses our stock of new books. The rest of us work as volunteers on a rota. Our list is growing and we hope many more will join. We will soon be offering shares in the community cooperative to raise funds. Donations of £20 up to £20,000 gives you membership of the co-op and a single vote. We aim to develop outreach services linking to schools, the library and the community and to run promotional events. If you are interested and want more information contact us via the website, at the shop or Kathy Stansfield, Secretary, Dartmouth Community Bookshop at k.stansfield583@btinternet.com tel: 01803 835140.
