Holly Hegarty Photography
About me:
I started taking pictures at the age of 11 with a simple ‘point and click’ camera. My favourite things to photograph were landscapes, plants and water.
At 13 as my passion for photography grew I got my first fully manual film camera, a Pentax K1000 with a Single Lens Reflex (SLR). This opened up a whole world of opportunities as I could now experiment with different apertures and shutter speeds with no automatic settings in sight. This camera formed the most important part of my photographic education and is my favourite camera of all time!
Growing up in the days of pre-digital you really had to think about what photos you took. Film is expensive and you only get 24-36 photographs to a roll so you had to make them count! Then there was the small price of developing them!
What film photography teaches you vs digital photography is how to use the camera to get the best shot rather than spending lots of time with digital pictures cropping and adjusting the pictures. I feel very privileged to have been able to learn photography in this way as it has held me in good stead for getting quality shots, first time.
In my teenage years I did photography courses aimed at my age group and was offered work experience with a freelance photographer where I assisted at weddings, studio shoots and was taught about re-touching, developing and printing photographs.
In 2007 I was awarded a BTEC National Certificate Level 3 Double Merit in Photography from The Arts Institute at Bournemouth. There I gained many more valuable experiences working with a variety of professional equipment as well as working on location, in the studio and, one of my favourite places, the darkroom. During that time I had work displayed and prints bought.
Since graduating from the Arts Institute I have continued my love of photography by taking photographs for myself and finally now I have grown in confidence I am taking pictures for other people!
My aim now is to get out there and start living my dream of being a freelance photographer.
To me, photography has so much to offer both the photographer and the client. I believe it should be an enjoyable experience from start to finish. Photographs can hold such precious records of our lives and can hold so many memories and feelings that I feel fortunate to be able to do the work I do. The greatest reward for me is to see my work being appreciated.
I am now taking bookings for shoots so if you would like more information or are interested in booking then please do get in touch here on my facebook page or alternatively hhegarty@hotmail.co.uk or 07817 799530
