Westborough High School
Westborough High School is a secondary school in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, England. It is located on Oxford Road, and shares its grounds with St John Fisher Catholic High School. The school was founded in the 1960s and has had close links with the other secondary schools around it. Westborough is situated in Westborough and takes students from the ages of 11–16. It's catchment areas are Ravensthorpe, Savile Town and local areas like Boothroyd. The current headteacher of Westborough is Mrs Pruchniewicz.For the last 5 years or so the music department at Westborough has grown into one of the most publicly viewed department at Westborough with many excellent concerts in the summer and winter time for all ages performed by the students. This is coming from a one-roomed music school to the new performing arts block. There are many important bands also that have started at Westborough most notoriously the Samba band and Drumline which have performed in Batley Park, York and on Sky TV during a rugby match.Westborough High School achieved the third successive year of record rises in GCSE results with 54% of young people achieving 5 or more GCSE passes at A* to C. 34% of those include English and Maths which is a 6% rise on last year and exceeds the 30% target set by the Government.In 2011, Birkdale High School was formally closed, with Westborough High School taking over the site. Some pupils from Birkdale transferred to the Westborough campus straight away. However the former Birkdale High School campus is still used to educate some pupils (under the management Westborough High School), and is currently known as the Halifax Road Campus. However new buildings are being constructed at the Westborough High School campus, and when completed all pupils will be transferred there. The Halifax Road Campus will then be closed.
