Wig bank Edinburgh (founder Agnes Lennox)

Wig bank Edinburgh (founder Agnes Lennox)

19a Haddington Place, Edinburgh ,
wig bank Edinburgh, and all other wig banks in the UK were founded by an amazing lady called Agnes Lennox. Agnes discovered a real lack of compassion and sensitivity in Edinburgh when buying a wig when she discovered she was to have chemotherapy. She was treated very insensitively, so thought there must be a way round it. And a cheaper way. So, she realised that most ladies, after chemotherapy, wouldn't want their wigs, but were at a loss to know what to do with them. She set up the first wig bank. Where people could dsonate their unwanted wigs for charity. She would wash, style, and condition the wigs, and sell them at around £10 each, £5 of each sale would go to Maggies cancer centre, Edinburgh. to this date she has raised nearly £9000 for Maggies. She won bighearted Scot of the year in 2006, and this year was nominated for an OBE/MBE. Well deserved too. So Sadly, Agnes passed away in November 2011. But the wigbank will live on in her name. She did years of amazing and inspiring work and Elizabeth Cameron, (her sister) and Emma Hall (a friend) have decided to keep the wig bank going. There are 13 wigbanks in the UK, for more details, or to read more about Agnes's inspirational story, please visit www.wigbank.com.
