MISSION
Empower minority communities to have a greater voice in Thurrock and surrounding areas. Whether they are from Minority ethnic communities, young people who are disenfranchised or people who feel isolated and vulnerable. We will support and advocate for such people in order to provide them with the tools to retain their identity, to reduce and remove barriers, enable prosperity and help them reach their full potential and fulfillment. As active promoters of equality and diversity, we continuously celebrate diversity in all its forms, promoting similarities and differences in people, thereby building a cohesive community.
VISION
Promoting excellent inter-community and inter-generational relations by listen to people from all ethnic backgrounds and bringing them together with the aim of developing a unified community in spite of people having different views.
OPERATIONAL AND STRATEGIC OVERVIEW
Historically minority communities disproportionately face the following barriers:
1. The local economy is currently poor, with low average earnings, a core of low-wage employment and under-employment in deprived wards.
2. Poor access to in work training leading to career development.
3. Geographical barriers – inappropriate public transport not matching areas where there are available jobs
3. Service provider ethos, e.g. providing one type of service that only meets the needs of the majority population, or impersonal (‘professional’) services that fail to meet specific needs for communities
4. Lack of capacity in the voluntary and community sector, e.g. a lack of or decline in funding for voluntary organisations
5. A general lack of understanding of diversity amongst the population.
