Ryukyu Karate - Langport
Ryukyu karate is from Okinawa and it is a traditional martial art, it is not a sport but a self defence system.
Our first Dojo (club) in England, opened in London in 1978 by Sensei Ian Gouge. He moved to Taunton and opened a Dojo in Monkton Heathfield in 1984.
The Langport Dojo opened in March 2010 under instructors Sensei Terry Irwin and Sensei Mark Irwin both taught by Sensei Ian Gouge.
Ryukyu karate includes blocks, punches, kicks, throws, take downs, ground fighting, sparring, pairwork, kata, meditation and yoga type exercises.
It is suitable for females and males from the age of 5, with no upper age limit. Everyone is welcome to train with us including students from other martial art styles.
