This is simply a page for the local people of Littleborough to voice their opinion on the proposed new Tesco store which the global brand and small retailer crusher is planning to open on Stockton St Littleborough. Please Please we genuinely do not need this to happen. We have some wonderful independent shops on Church Street and Harehill Road who will be massively affected by this (if it happens) and we seriously do have to fight this as it will affect us and it will have a negative effect on our wonderful village. Please do get involved, do you seriously want to be a "clone" town were you buy everything from one massive global corporation who in reality couldn't care less about you but wants your cash? Or would you rather spend your money in the local butchers, the local florist, clothes shops, deli's, dry cleaners, newsagents etc etc etc etc. People in our borough have fought hard and put so much effort into what we are which is a strong independent "local" village and we DO NOT need railroading by a corporation riddled in controversy coming into our backyard and attempting to dictate what we buy and how we buy it. This is Littleborough Art Festival's 10th anniversary so we're aiming for this year’s festival to be the best yet! There are some exciting ideas and proposals happening to celebrate the anniversary which we can’t reveal yet but keep checking for updates! We’re also looking to expand LAF and work with local partners and businesses so if you think you would like to work with LAF get in touch. LAF will have the usual fantastic show of local art, all of which will be for sale, there will be the new improved Photography Competition with the theme of CELEBRATION with some excellent prizes up for grabs including First prize of £100. Also planned for the festival is: - Workshops including pottery and jewellery making - Art and craft market - Music day - Art Studio openings We are also pleased to announce that Littleborough Gallery have generously put forward a £100 prize for the best piece of original art in any medium*. Not only is this festival to celebrate local artists but the daily workshops are great to keep the kids occupied as the summer holidays come to an end.
