Moffat Fishery

Moffat Fishery

Moffat Fishery, The Green Frog, Hammerlands, Moffat ,
Welcome to the Moffat Fishery Facebook Page – a fishery founded in 1988 and undergoing a rejuvenation exercise to return it to its original “glory” days when it established itself as a top “Troutmasters” venue featuring quality fully finned trout and specialising in a “not the run of the mill” approach to what it offered in terms of variety of fish available to be caught, it’s own on-site fish farm (to ensure the best possible stocking policy), and on-site facilities to enhance the experience of any anglers day out! Moffat Fishery became famous for its crystal clear spring fed waters that feed the 4.5 acre fly-only fishery and the smaller “family” fishery. The fly fishery was historically stocked with quality Rainbow, Brown and the not-so-common-at-the-time American Brook Trout. Today the aim is to return to and further develop this tradition by supplementing the variety of fish already on offer with Tigers and Blues. The family fishing lochan is well stocked with plate-sized (ok large plate size!) trout ideal for catching using bait and rods available for hire, and guaranteed to put a smile on any newcomers’ face (or satisfy the more experienced angler just wanting to catch their supper!) The fish farm and hatchery is also fed by the same crystal clear spring water and is in the process of being rebuilt. The aim of the fish farm is to make Moffat Fishery self-sufficient in terms of the production of its own fish to keep the fisheries topped up with the quality fish upon which it made its reputation. Members of the public (and of course patrons of the fisheries) will be able to wander around the fish farm and feed the fish in designated areas, and hopefully appreciate seeing the different varieties of fish at various stages in their life-cycle. Also in the very near future the coarse fishery will be reinstated and restocked with a good head of a variety of coarse fish including carp, roach, rudd, and tench to name but a few. Although forming an integral part of “The Green Frog” at Moffat, and being able to share all that is on offer in terms of excellent catering facilities, shelter when needed, (and properly maintained toilets!), the Moffat Fishery will be run not as an “add-on” to that business but more as a dedicated venue for both the discerning more experienced fly angler and the novice angler (young or older) Moffat Fishery is determined to return to its rightful position as one of the best fisheries of its type in Scotland or indeed the U.K – and why not? Of course to do that we know we will be relying on constructive feedback from anglers at all stages and want to encourage that at all times. Tight-lines!
