As a focal point of the Jesmond Community, Jesmond Pool has an unusual history. Originally opened in 1938, the pool was closed by the Council in 1991. Within a year a registered charity and limited company, called Jesmond Swimming Project, was formed to lease the building from the Council, employ staff, and reopen the pool as a public facility.
