The club was established in the 70's and has seen many colourful characters over the years. Chess has no shortage of personalities, as those familiar with the game will already no doubt know. In recent years the club has concentrated on its core membership and took on the challenge of getting two teams into the top division in Leicestershire. This it has succeeded in doing - for the first time in the club's history! This is an exciting time for new, particularly strong players to join our club. Having said that we are not elitist and would love to form a team to play in the lower divisions - players of all standards are therefore welcome. The Leicestershire league is proud to have Grandmaster Mark Hebden playing regularly in division 1 Should you reach the heights of the top flight at Shepshed then you could find yourself sitting opposite what is one of the World's strongest players! :o) (Club Thumbnail Icon:- Philidor's position. Shepshed Running Club is a friendly club of running enthusiastics. Our main club night is on Tuesdays where we run from our hut.
