Maharishi School
It's a great joy to announce that The Maharishi School, founded in the late 1980s - a school in which practice of Transcendental Meditation and Maharishi's knowledge of consciousness is part of the curriculum - has been granted 'Free School' status.
'Free Schools' are part of the British Government's new initiative - as of September 2011 - to improve the state of the nation's education by giving parents and educators the freedom to set up independent, state-funded school that are free of local government control. This means that schools are free to develop and impliment their own curricula. The government's application procedure is extremely rigorous and prospective free schools need to be able to satisfy a broad range of criteria before they can begin to operate. The most essential criteria from the school's standpoint however is that they can find suitable, functional premises and evidence of sufficient demand from parents.
The Maharishi School, based in Skelmersdale in Lancashire, has been attracting considerable attention for many years through its outstanding CGSE results which have put it into the top 3% of schools nationally. Its students have also been the recipients of many regional and national awards.
On the basis of The Maharishi School's wonderful academic success over 25 years, we now aiming to set up more Maharishi Schools in other parts of the UK to add to the 24 Free Schools that opened on September 4th.
