ITWales was established in 1993 as the industrial liaison unit of the Department of Computer Science, Swansea University. Initially the primary functions of the programme were to create awareness and understanding of emerging technologies amongst business in Wales and improve local graduate employment opportunities. However, to date it continues to grow with two multi million pound ESF funded projects, Software Alliance Wales (£13m) which supports innovation and growth through upskilling the ICT and Software sector and Technocamps (£6m) which is encouraging more pupils to study computing and its cognate STEM subjects at higher levels. ITWales Student and Graduate Placement scheme still plays a pivotal role in linking the technical and organisational requirements of business and industry in Wales to the expertise and skills of Computer Science students.
