I am forensic artist with a background in psychology. My interest in the human face began when I become a portrait artist. I was fascinated to find that there are 44 muscles in the human face that are responsible for over 10 thousand different expressions. I realized that I also had a talent for drawing facial features and this turned into a passion for forensic art, there is nothing I love doing more.
During my pursuit and training in forensic art I came across the reality of the unidentified and missing people in the world, thousands upon thousands of people are known as John Does and Jane Does, not fitting for a person who once had a name and identity. I knew there and then that forensic art was going to be a major part of my life.
I was then prompted to find out more about the missing and unidentified which brought me to The Doe Network and Can You Identify Me?, absolutely wonderful organisations that are focused on giving back the identities of the unknown. I became involved in the Doe Network organisation and am proud to say that I am now the area director for England. I did notice however that the UK needs more exposure to the missing and unidentified and decided to form my own organisation UnidentifiedUK.org. I hope to bring exposure to the cold cases here in the UK.
I would like to thank the people that have gotten me here, all the great teachers I have trained with; some of the best in the business. Their exceptional abilities are just incredible and while we have these people in the world the criminals will have to keep looking over their shoulders. John Walsh founder of Americas Most Wanted and the parent of a murdered child once said of the late great forensic sculpture Frank Bender " If Frank does your bust, your toast". and that was all too true.
I would also like to thank the person who put the pencil back in my hand. You may not know this but you are a part of what I do. For every successful identification I will do in forensic art. For the closure I can help bring to a family, you are a part of it. I would also like to thank my friends and my friends I call family for the help and encouragement they have given me and for all the new friends I have made in Forensic Art you have been so inspiring.
My friends and family constantly ask me how I do what I do? how do I find the time? my answer is this "Unfortunately there are people in this world that hurt and even murder people and discard their bodies without any thought, they will never stop, so how can I"
Forensic art has become an exceptional tool in crime fighting and I am honoured and glad to be a part of it.
