London Cabaret Awards
In recent years London's cabaret scene has enjoyed a boom unprecedented since the days of music hall, with underground venues opening throughout the city, burlesque shows reaching the West End and cabaret work being embraced by institutions from the V&A and National Portrait Gallery to the Royal Opera House and the Old Vic, not to mention Britain's Got Talent and the Glastonbury festival.
An independent judging panel will decide the nominees for eleven awards plus a special ‘lifetime achievement’ award.
The panel consists of Sean Mooney (Beyond the Cabaret), Katherin Ives (Trilby Productions), Walt Utz (Madam JoJo’s), Maud Young (independent stage manager) and Dicky Eton (DUCKIE). Jayne Hardy (agent, formerly with Whoopee, the cradle of the retro/burlesque revival), who was part of last year’s panel, will be staying on as advisor to the new panel.
Leading variety entertainment specialists Excess All Areas is headed by Paul L Martin, who has dedicated 21 years to the art of cabaret having performed, taught, produced, promoted and written on the genre.
On 5th November the website www.londoncabaretawards.co.uk will be updated with long-list nominations for each category. On 5th January 2013 this list will be whittled down to just 3 nominees for each category and they will be invited to the ceremony at The Royal Vauxhall Tavern on Wednesday 13th February 2013.
Tickets to the public for this event will be very limited as our focus is to celebrate and promote the hard work done in the past decade to help build our fantastic and diverse cabaret scene in London.
