Bushey 10K
Upgraded, updated and uphill….but less so than in the past! That’s the new Spire Bushey 10K on Sunday July 14, the annual summer race enjoyed by local runners of all ages.
For the past 26 years, the Bushey Quarter Marathon has been a highlight of the annual Bushey Festival. Now, for the first time, it has been officially measured as a 10K route, with chip timing for all participants, whether Junior runners from Reception to Year 10, fun runners testing themselves on a respectable distance or seasoned runners out to win trophies for their clubs. Organised for the second time by the England Athletics-affiliated club David Lloyd Pacers, the event is very much part of the summer sporting map. The beneficiary this year will be The Prince’s Trust.
In a further shift from tradition, the Spire Bushey 10K has a new Start/Finish venue at Queens’ School, Aldenham Road, Bushey. This will offer runners indoor registration and changing facilities, plenty of toilets (the lack of which is the bane of many a nervous runner’s pre-race routine) and lots of space for the wealth of activities for runners and their families. As always, Spire Hospital Bushey phsyiotherapists will work their magic on tired limbs, there will be face painting and a bouncy castle for the little ones and, in addition, there will be hot and cold food and drinks and a variety of attractions including dance classes and a kids’ nail bar.
And that opening sentence about it being uphill? The all-new route is just as varied and scenic as in previous years, with a loop through King George Recreation Ground for old times’ sake. But the good news is, there will be no everlasting trudge up the mountainous Chiltern Avenue.
