Marlborough College has been built and strengthened by benefaction: we are fortunate in that the generosity of supporters has enabled us to invest in the future and to prepare young men and women to lead lives which draw upon the College’s belief in scholarship, service, companionship and the pursuit of excellence. The aim of the Marlborough College Foundation is to maintain and strengthen the tradition of benefaction that has sustained and enriched the College since its establishment in 1843. We are a leading school but we understand that we cannot stand still and that there is a great deal to do. Our vision for the future is innovative and original and builds upon our tradition of looking forward.

We're a new club, working to extend opportunities to fence in Wiltshire. We fence Tuesday evenings, with juniors starting at 7:00 PM and adults starting at 8:00 PM. We run an 8-week beginner's course throughout the year. Get in touch or stop by on Tuesdays to learn more.

Our Company The Marlborough Players were founded by Barbara Clauson, Ian Philpott and Jack Hawkes in 2004 after the huge success of the 'Wheels of Time' play (marking the 800th anniversary of Marlborough's Royal Charter) clearly indicated that there was a healthy appetite for amateur drama in the town once again. Although we have a healthy membership, we are always looking for aspiring actors and directors to join our happy band, as well as those willing to help backstage. Our first General Meeting on 6th January 2006 established a formal committee and approved our Constitution. Since then, we have successfully staged J B Priestley's classic play 'An Inspector Calls', Alan Bennett's political comedy 'Getting On', Mike Williams' comedy 'Waiting for Panto', Christopher Hampton’s ‘The Philanthropist’, Peter Nichols’ ‘A Day in the Death of Joe Egg', Joe Orton’s comedy ‘Entertaining Mr Sloane’, Nick Hall's one-act comedy 'Pastiche', Andrew Davies' comedy 'Thermal Underwear', Noel Coward's 'Blithe Spirit', Alan Ayckbourn's 'Confusions' and, in November 2012, JB Priestley's 'When We Are Married', which played to packed houses. In addition to staging public performances of plays, we occasionally organise play readings and theatrical skills training, and we meet in Marlborough on a regular basis. The convalescent home was the Children's Convalescent Home (later Hospital) on the Common at Marlborough. It was established in the former Union Workhouse in 1930 and took children from all over Wiltshire. In the 1950s the Matron was Mrs Harral and the Medical Officer was Dr. Tim Maurice followed by Dr. Dick Maurice. In 1954 the M.O. was Dr. Dick (a dynasty of Maurices in Marlborough have all been known by their Christian names) whose major interest was the Children's Hospital and who attended on Saturday or Sunday afternoons to meet visiting parents. The hospital had closed by 1994 and has now been converted into flats, with houses built in the grounds. There is a book by Dick Maurice - The Marlborough Doctors, Alan Sutton Publishing, 1994, ISBN 0 07509 0831 9 - that contains several references to the Children's Hospital.
