NCWA - National Community Wrestling Alliance
The National Community Wrestling Alliance is a group set up to primarily by Andrew Hogg a professional wrestler with over 15 years’ experience, Supported by colleagues Mathew Wand, Mark Sanderson, Andy Cain and Jon Maiden.
Andy Hogg started wrestling at the age of 20, travelling to Kent every weekend to train as it was the only available school. Andy has wrestled for promotions all over the UK and Ireland building up a solid reputation in the business as well as an excellent knowledge base. Andy also holds a recognised as Qualified Ring Wrestling Instructor by
The British Wrestling Council (www.britishwrestling.council.org) and has been the Head trainer at The Strong As Steel Wrestling Academy since February 2011.He has himself trained under various instructors during the 15 years and has been training, and assisting other students at the behest of his instructors for around 14 of those years. He has constructed a portfolio of teaching methods and techniques throughout this period which would form a comprehensive syllabus.
Both Matt Ward and Mark Sanderson have wrestled now for around 8 to 10 years starting their training at EPW a small Sheffield based training school (now dissolved) where Andy helped out as a Trainer. Matt and Mark have also both Wrestled throughout the UK as EPW the school had an excellent reputation for turning out some of the best trained well rounded athletes in the business, They are now hoping to use their knowledge and abilities to help the next generation.
Andy Cain has a vast knowledge of central government, civil service policy and law due to his long service career in British Government. He will also bring his experience of voluntary organisations and media both journalistic and broadcasting to the table. Andy has been involved in the wrestling industry to a significant degree for the past 10 years so his support will be invaluable to our project.
Jon Maiden will be supporting and mentoring us our business funding officer, Until Feb 2011, Development Director of Point Blank and overseen the company’s rapid transformation and growth in recent years including the acquisition of a pioneering new live arts & entertainment venue. To date he has raised over £1.5m of funds for the organisation from a wide range of sources.
Jon is also a registered Business Link consultant and mentor and has facilitated the incorporation and development of several new start arts companies. Board member of the Youth Consortium Sheffield (YCS), local writing project Signposts and recently instigated the establishment of Viva (the South Yorkshire Arts Consortium) which has received over £750k income to date.
Jon has recently graduated from the first Goldman Sachs Business Growth Programme involving comprehensive training from some of the UK’s most successful entrepreneurs and academic experts in business management and growth. Course materials are jointly written by Oxford University and Leeds University Business Schools.
The group has been set up to help get people involved in sport regardless of their age, sex, race and ability, Our aim is to use wrestling as a way to promote health (through training) respect (for yourself, your peers and your fellow trainees) and general wellbeing. With wrestling being and Olympic sport and the sport of pro wrestling becoming hugely popular we feel this is the best time to start this school and with a little promotion on our behalf we have a list of trainees ready to begin.
We feel this project is an excellent opportunity to bring together sport and the community and give young people the chance to try something new, get involved and get fit.
