The school is housed in an attractive Victorian building lying between the villages of Buckminster and Sewstern, and was built in 1889. The school has five well-equipped classrooms together with a school hall, library, kitchen, a studio for the teaching of music, drama and dance, a staff room and office accommodation. Outside we have an enclosed play area for the Reception children, a large hard playground, an adjacent sports field, incorporating a multi-user games area with an all weather surface. We have also developed an enclosed garden area, where each class is able to tend their own vegetable bed and we have paddocks for our hens and goats. Every fortnight we travel to Melton Mowbray by coach for swimming lessons. Aims Buckminster School promotes pride, progress and performance by working with children to: Ensure that they feel secure, happy and valued; Become confident and independent learners who show pride in their achievements; Develop individual strengths and overcome difficulties in a positive way; Develop high self-esteem, respecting themselves, others and the community; Encourage high expectations to achieve excellence in all areas of the curriculum; Take advantages of opportunities beyond the basic curriculum; Encourage them to question, to discuss issues and make decisions. Clubs and Other Activities We try to provide a wide and varied range of activities for our pupils. The pattern of extra curricular activities changes throughout the year. Recent and upcoming activities include: Tennis Coaching Dancing – from Maypole to Street Dance Drama Club Football Coaching Drumming Club Chess Recorder and Ocarina Tuition Film Club Tag Rugby Curling Club Cricket Forest School The philosophy of Forest Schools is to encourage and inspire individuals of any age through positive outdoor experiences. Children visit the same local woodlands on a regular basis and through play they have the opportunity to learn about the natural environment, how to handle risks and most importantly to use their own initiative to solve problems and co-operate with others. Reception children go to Forest School every other Wednesday. A minibus picks the children up in the morning and drops them back at school just in time for lunch. School provide the children with waterproof clothing and wellingtons so we can get very messy. In the School Library there is a weekly account of all the things we have done and a scrap book to keep all our memories. Eco School At the end of Summer term 2011 Buckminster Primary School signed up to become an 'Eco School.' We elected eight pupils who form our Eco Team and since then they have been working very hard to try and make Buckminster School and Eco Friendly School. We have now achieved both the Bronze and Silver Eco Awards. We are now focusing on getting the Green Flag Award. Please help support our school and if you think you can help in anyway then contact a member of the Eco Team.
