The regular monthly meeting or “Forum” has been taking place continuously since early 2006. Attended by mental health service users and carers, the Forum continues to provide an opportunity for people to express their views about different aspects of mental health services. It is also valued as a place where people can find out more information on services available and about changes to services. From 2007 - 2010, the Forum and related activities were organised by a committee of its members, all of whom gave up a great deal of time to make it a success. Then, in 2010, we were awarded some Comic Relief funding and Rochdale Boroughwide User Forum Co. Ltd. was born.

Andy Aspinall has encompassed many forms of grappling arts over a period of almost 20 years and has been teaching Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) full time since 2005. We are proud to offer classes for ALL levels of experience (from no experience to expert martial artists), fitness (from unfit to super fit) and age (6 years up, men and women) and encourage the whole family to come along and train in a safe and friendly environment. See our classes page for details. Our classes offer an easy approach to learning BJJ. All students are helpful to each other and results can be seen in a very short period of time. The skills that you are taught will be realistic for self defence and great for improving fitness levels, stamina, flexibility and well being. All professional Mixed Martial Artists (MMA) who participate in professional organisations such as the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will be practicing BJJ techniques as part of their training. BJJ is arguably the fastest growing sport in the world today. The emphasis in training is placed on perfecting the technical aspects of techniques, rather than relying on strength and brute force to overcome opponents. Low impact training is carried out to reduce injury risk, and sparring is optional (but encouraged) in all classes. Rochdale Judo Club was established in 1950 and in the intervening years members have trained in a succession of venues - above a garage, in various church halls and even in a room above the old Rochdale market until 1977 when we opened our own custom built premises in Trafalgar Street. Since then the club has gone from dytrength to strength and in 2005 we were awarded a £163,500 Lottery grant which enabled us to rebuild our premises forming a state of the art Dojo which is one of the foremost Judo Centres in the North West Area. In April 2007 we were awarded the Sport England ClubMark accreditation certificate, which demonstrates our committment to providing a safe and friendly environment for children and young people to practice Judo.
