CARAD Rhayader Museum and Gallery

CARAD, East Street, Rhayader ,
CARAD gives people in Mid-Wales the chance to involve themselves in artistic expression and interpretation, to share experiences and crucially, to have a voice and to have that voice heard as we consider our place in the modern world. People who live in this beautiful area have a strong sense of place and community: oral and folk history are part of everyday conversations, and the environment an integral part of everyday work.

Rushden Museum

Rushden Museum

The Old Stables, Hall Avenue, Hall Park,, Rushden ,
The project to open a museum was started in 1999 by a group of like minded enthusiasts, who were concerned that with the rapid growth of the town there was nowhere to preserve its history. The museum was opened in 2005 on the site of the Old Stables at the rear of the Rushden Hall. The Museum is run by an Executive Committee and Volunteers, who act as stewards during opening hours, assist with cataloguing, exhibitions and general day to day functions. The Museum collection includes objects and photographs that reflect the social history of the town and the Boot & Shoe industry – it being the instigator of the town’s rapid growth in the late 19th century. The Rushden Research ‘Hearts & Soles’ I.T. kiosk provides archived history at the touch of a button. The museum has also compiled the ‘Shoe Loan Box’ which is a portable box which takes the history out to the community, be it a school or social group. In the vicinity of Rushden Museum is the Historic Rushden Hall. Guided tours can be arranged for groups by contacting the museum. Exhibitions are changed ANNUALLY depicting different topics of Rushden’s History. Come along and visit Rushden Museum which has recently been awarded a Visitor Assured Quality Award Scheme

Saltburn, Saltburn ,
Saltburn history in our own voices Do you have stories to tell about life in Saltburn in times gone by? If so we would like to meet you . You could be recording your own, or your family's, place in our town's history. We are creating a “virtual museum” permanently available online to capture the gems of valuable knowledge that yesteryear were commonplace, but now are so rare many of us may not even be aware of them. The museum will hold a searchable feast of maps, pictures, information, stories, audio recordings and video, free for everyone to browse, but we can't build it without your input and support. This virtual museum will be for everyone, so don’t worry if you are not interested in computers, we will hold regular events giving everyone an opportunity to get involved, learn about our heritage and to enjoy the contributions of others. Saltburn is coming up to its 152nd birthday, which may sound like a very long time, but as local historian Tony Lynn points out when he first came to Saltburn, “the inception of the town was still within living memory”. You may have some fabulous knowledge that you don’t even realise others aren’t aware of. We will help you document and share this information. We are looking to share and conserve Saltburn history in its people's own voices, to show residents, visitors and future historians who we are and where we came from. We would love to sit down and have a chat. If you have any photographs, we will make a digital copy for the virtual museum, meaning you can still keep the original. We will then display the copy with your story. We are looking for photographs of not just buildings and scenery, but also family snaps which may contain faces from the past and show how we used to live. Tony and Cath Lynn have agreed to be our guides on how to conserve our history; to help us illuminate, entertain and grow interest in the history of our town. They have been conserving and sharing this area's history for more than half a century; with Tony as the orator and Cath as lead researcher. We are very honoured that they are supporting the project and we will work hard to maintain and grow this valuable resource to the standard they would expect. Once we start bringing together the small things we all know about our past, who knows what we will discover? You can email us info@saltburnbythesea.org or Come to our drop in events in the library on a Friday in July . Young or Vintage it would be great to see you . Whether you're reading this in your kitchen in Saltburn, or by the barbie in Oz, we want to hear from you.
Scarborough Museums Trust

Scarborough Museums Trust

We are an independent charitable trust set up in 2008 to manage the Rotunda, the William Smith Museum of Geology, Scarborough Art Gallery and Scarborough Collections (Events and Collections based at Woodend) and finally the popular Dinosaur Coast activities which take place at various venues along the coast. Whilst a large proportion of the Trusts funding comes from Scarborough Borough Council; we are dependent on the income from admissions and from other charitable donations to carry out the work we do, preserving Scarborough's heritage for future generations. A large part of our work is engaging with local schools, providing a trusted learning resource to help both teachers and children bring learning to life through the Geological, Historical and Art Collections we manage. **The Gallery is closed from 13 February until the opening of the Fears, Foes & Faeries exhibition on Fri 23 March 2012.** Please explore our Facebook page further and let us know what you think.
